The Conformist is a 1970 Italian political drama film directed by Bernardo Bertolucci, based on the 1951 novel by Alberto Moravia. The film follows Marcello Clerici, a man who becomes a fascist flunky in 1930s Italy, as he seeks acceptance in society by conforming to the political ideology of the time. Caught between his own moral dilemmas and the demands of fascism, Clerici's life becomes a complex web of deceit, betrayal, and existential introspection.
