Born on May 9, 1946, in Beverly Hills, California, she is the daughter of famed ventriloquist Edgar Bergen and model Frances Bergen. She made her film debut in "The Group" (1966) and gained prominence with roles in "Carnal Knowledge" (1971) and "Starting Over" (1979), for which she received an Oscar nomination. She is best known for her Emmy-winning role as the titular character in the TV series "Murphy Brown" (1988-1998, 2018). In addition to acting, she has worked as a photojournalist and penned memoirs.
