Roman Polanski
Born in 1933 in Paris, he survived the Holocaust in Poland. Emerging as a filmmaker in the 1960s, he gained acclaim with "Knife in the Water." Moving to Hollywood, he directed classics like "Rosemary's Baby" and "Chinatown," earning a reputation for psychological thrillers. His life was marked by personal tragedy, including the murder of his wife, Sharon Tate, in 1969. Legal issues led him to flee the U.S. in 1978. Despite controversy, he continued making films, winning an Oscar for "The Pianist" in 2003.
