A Japanese animator and film director, he began his career at Studio Ghibli, contributing to classics like "Spirited Away" and "Howl’s Moving Castle." He made his directorial debut with "The Secret World of Arrietty" in 2010, followed by "When Marnie Was There" in 2014. After leaving Ghibli, he co-founded Studio Ponoc and directed "Mary and the Witch's Flower" in 2017.
