Franklin J. Schaffner
Born in Tokyo to American missionary parents, he later moved to the United States. He attended Franklin & Marshall College and then studied law at Columbia University before turning to a career in television and film direction. He earned acclaim for his work on the TV series "The Defenders" and later transitioned to film, directing classics such as "Planet of the Apes" (1968) and "Patton" (1970), the latter earning him an Academy Award for Best Director. His work is known for its epic scope and attention to detail.
