A British film and television director, he was born in 1944. He initially pursued a career in academia, studying medicine and then switching to history of science before transitioning to the arts. He gained recognition in the 1980s for directing music-related films and biopics, including "Breaking Glass" and "The Josephine Baker Story," the latter earning him an Emmy Award. Known for his work on both sides of the Atlantic, he directed "What's Love Got to Do with It," a film about Tina Turner. He passed away in 2004.
