Born on April 4, 1932, in Zavrazhye, Soviet Union, he emerged as a profound filmmaker renowned for his spiritual and metaphysical themes. He studied at the State Institute of Cinematography, debuting with "Ivan's Childhood" (1962), which won the Golden Lion at Venice. His signature works, including "Andrei Rublev," "Solaris," and "Stalker," reflect his visionary style and philosophical depth. He faced censorship in the USSR, leading to his eventual defection to the West. He passed away on December 29, 1986, in Paris.
