Set during the final days of WWII, The Captain follows Willi Herold, a young German infantryman who steals a captain’s uniform and assumes command of a small band of soldiers and civilians. Believing his rank grants him unlimited power, he orders, coerces, and brutalizes those around him, blurring the line between pretend authority and real influence. As the facade begins to collapse, the film probes the seductive danger of power and the violence of war.
