The American is a suspenseful thriller centered around an assassin named Jack, played by George Clooney. After a job in Sweden ends more harshly than expected, he retreats to the Italian countryside to lay low. While crafting a weapon for an enigmatic contact, he bonds with a local priest and falls for a beautiful woman, Clara.
