Peter Bretter, a struggling musician, is left heartbroken when his famous TV star girlfriend Sarah Marshall breaks up with him. To heal his broken heart, Peter decides to take a vacation to Hawaii, only to find out that Sarah and her new boyfriend are staying at the same resort. As Peter tries to move on from the failed relationship, he meets a beautiful hotel employee named Rachel who helps him discover his true self.
