A Scanner Darkly is a 2006 animated science fiction thriller film directed by Richard Linklater, based on Philip K. Dick's novel of the same name. The film is set in a dystopian near-future where America has lost the war on drugs. It follows an undercover cop named Bob Arctor who is assigned to spy on his friends and housemates. As he becomes increasingly addicted to the drug Substance D, the line between his undercover persona and his real identity begins to blur.
