Zhang Yimou
Born on April 2, 1950, in Xi'an, China, this acclaimed filmmaker is a leading figure in Chinese cinema. He gained international recognition with his debut film, "Red Sorghum" (1987), which won the Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival. Known for his visually rich storytelling, he directed classics like "Raise the Red Lantern" and "Hero." His work often explores themes of Chinese history and culture. He also directed the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
