An accomplished film director and animator, he gained recognition for his unique storytelling and visual style. He studied architecture before transitioning to film, earning an MFA in animation from UCLA. His short film, a post-apocalyptic tale featuring ragdoll characters, received critical acclaim and an Academy Award nomination. This success led to the creation of a feature-length adaptation produced by Tim Burton. Throughout his career, he has continued to explore innovative animated narratives.
