Derek Jarman
Born in 1942, he was a seminal British filmmaker and artist known for his provocative and avant-garde works. With a background in art from the University of London, he became a leading figure in the British independent film movement. His films, including "Sebastiane" and "Blue," explored themes of sexuality, identity, and politics. A pioneer in using Super 8 film, he also gained recognition for his music videos. He was an outspoken advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and continued creating art until his death in 1994.
