An American actor born in 1934, he was known for his roles in gritty urban dramas and collaborations with directors like Martin Scorsese and Abel Ferrara. He often portrayed tough characters, including law enforcement officers and criminals, in films such as "Taxi Driver," "King of New York," and "Bad Lieutenant." He also appeared in several stage productions and was a founding member of the off-Broadway theater company, The Riverside Shakespeare Company. He passed away in 2004.
