Henry Louis Gates Jr.
An eminent scholar, he is best known for his work in African American studies, literature, and history. He has made significant contributions as a literary critic, historian, and public intellectual. He is the Alphonse Fletcher University Professor and Director of the Hutchins Center for African & African American Research at Harvard University. In addition to his academic pursuits, he has hosted several acclaimed PBS documentary series exploring cultural and historical themes.
