He began performing at a young age alongside his brother in The Hines Kids, later known as Hines, Hines, and Dad. Transitioning to film, he earned acclaim for roles in "The Cotton Club," "White Nights," and "Running Scared." A versatile performer, he won a Tony Award for "Jelly's Last Jam" and contributed significantly to the revival of tap dance. He passed away in 2003.
