Born on March 8, 1959, in Chicago, Illinois, he grew up in Ireland and the United States. He began his acting career on stage before transitioning to film. His breakthrough came with "Desperately Seeking Susan" (1985) and he gained further recognition with roles in "Legends of the Fall" (1994) and "Michael Collins" (1996). Known for his versatile performances, he has appeared in both independent films and mainstream Hollywood productions. He also starred in the television series "Elementary."
